Lot of planning went into this one. With traditional art it's really quite difficult to 'add highlights' at a later date, gel pens/opaque white can do simple white highlights, but you can't really colour over the top very well. So flames and glows have to be planned out and hopefully work, once you've committed that's it, it's kinda fun to be highly experimental and hope it works out in the end which you wont know until it's done.
So I planned this one out on the sketch/lineart with the full background included and which parts were 'flame-y'.
He's supposed to look a little defiant, but mostly tired, that's the impression I get from his character, he's really quite tired and knows what needs to happen, but it will hurt those closest to him.
His character really stood out for me so it's been fun drawing my fav (even though I do like Kuro too cause he's so cute!)
