Character: Subaru Sumeragi Series: Tokyo Babylon by CLAMP Materials: Copics, Gel Pen, Multi-liners & some highlights by other markers Time: Sketch over several days (and a few versions), line art and colouring over two days. Promotion: Subaru Week at till the 26th Feb
Another year goes by Happy Birthday Subaru!! (and Hokuto!!)
I went with 'hat parade' this time with a little bit of a splicing between the new sketch (please CLAMP colour it, please please please!) and some from the Tokyo Babylon Photographs art book. I seem to get very ambitious with my week pictures instead of sticking to what I know, I guess it's my chance to challenge myself to see how I am (or not) improving. I think I like some of the older ones better than this one, but I at least like the hats, hats came out well. Edit: Painstakingly tried to use photoshop to fix up the red hues the scanner ate, best I can get - original is much nicer, but that's the case with most traditional works, putting them up digitally does them no favours.
No critique please thanks for bearing with it, hey it's better than Subaru Spock!
Used to watch CLAMP stuff all the time; sat through a marathon of Chobits, and Cardcaptor Sakura with my older sister on ANIMAX, and at one time, AXN network. This kinda reminded me of CLAMP School Detectives, but I hadn't seen much CLAMP, or anime since we moved out of our other country. Soo much stuff to watch, or to catch up, and there's not a single anime channel here. Oh well, haha.
I like the outfit Subaru's wearing; this red-white sailor-esque looking one, with a hint of gold. Really interesting. Though, maybe it could use some shadows, or cel-shading 'cause it looks kinda flat. Nice composition, though. c:
I would've loved to have seen him pop up in CLAMP School Detectives (he would be in the timeline just in an older class), watching that series again at the moment cause it's so cute! They've recently been releasing the manga in omnibus form of the older series so I've been catching up on them through that too cause all the old releases are almost impossible to find now.
Yeah I need to get a new scanner or one that can do the yellow->red (& pink) range better, it saps out all the shading and flattens it, only so much fiddling with photoshop can do. Pain in the butt when I'm trying to scan art books too, ruins so many great artworks that have some much more colours and depths that my scans just don't pick up very well
Thanks, as I was going through the art book I kept wanting to draw more of the hats, the clock one amuses me, even though I didn't put the clock face on it (it's the blue and white one up the top), such an odd hat
You're very welcome. I can see the attraction to the hats. I'd personally love to have a few of those in my collection. xD The clock one seems like a ton of fun though!

I really love the hat and everything blends amazing together!
I like the vivid colouring too!!!
Trust me, some hats are too headstrong!
